Founded by Nina Yashar, Nilufar has established itself as a hybrid platform where exhibition, research and scenography come together to showcase creators of yesterday and today. Among the talents championed by the gallery, the Greek studio “made by ASTRONAUTS” perfectly embodies Yashar’s discerning eye through creations situated at the crossroads of disciplines, materials and imaginaries.

“DISCOVERING, CROSSING, CREATING”
Established in Milan in 1979, Nilufar is difficult to define. Neither strictly a gallery nor a studio, the project founded and led by Nina Yashar has become a singular entity within the contemporary design landscape. “Nilufar is a place where collectible design is not simply displayed, but carefully staged to endure through time. What has always distinguished us is an approach that is both instinctive and rigorous, a constant dialogue between intuition, research and a deep commitment to quality, where we discover new talents while placing them in conversation with historical pieces,” explains Yashar.

Within this universe, multiple dimensions coexist. Vintage pieces enter into dialogue with contemporary design and with Nilufar Edition, the gallery’s in-house production programme. “It is the dialogue between these three dimensions that truly defines our uniqueness. My guiding principle has always been to create bridges between eras, materials and creative languages”, the director adds.

Materiality plays a central role in this approach. No longer considered a simple support, it becomes a genuine language, actively shaping the identity of each piece. This demanding relationship with material is equally evident in the work of made by ASTRONAUTS, one of the contemporary studios represented by Nilufar, whose practice similarly explores the boundaries between experimentation, form and perception. •
